If this were related to some external —non add-on— program that registered itself for some specific content type or content encoding, then one would not see the HTTP headers.
The browser would only send the content, not the headers, to that registered program. Arjan good point, but any idea what it might be then? Like I commented above, I assume the behavior is caused by the erroneous zero and extra newline. But I cannot imagine this is related to SE.
