Luigi succeeds at this and promptly enters the Paranormal Portal, where he reaches the final area of the game, King Boo's Illusion. There, Luigi sees Mario's painting, but King Boo appears and reveals that he broke the Dark Moon in order to put all the ghosts under his control.

King Boo also explains that he believes he is the rightful ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom , and wishes to conquer it with his new army. He plans to put Luigi and his friends in paintings as well, and proceeds to battle him.
